The Democracy Video Challenge, a global call to action celebrating democracy, is currently accepting video shorts (3 minutes or less) that complete the phrase: “Democracy is…”

In its second year, the Challenge will honor winners from every region of the world: Sub-Saharan Africa, East Asia and the Pacific, Europe, the Near East and North Africa, South and Central Asia, and the Western Hemisphere. Contestants may also submit videos anonymously, but will not be eligible for the grand prize. The winning videos are selected by global online voting on YouTube.

Who: The Democracy Video Challenge is a unique partnership comprising democracy, and youth organizations, the film and entertainment industry, academia, and the U.S. government. In its inaugural year, the Challenge attracted more than 900 videos from 95 countries around the world.

What: The Democracy Video Challenge is currently accepting video shorts (3 minutes or less) that complete the phrase: “Democracy is…”

When: Entry deadline is Jan. 31, 2010

Prize: The winners will receive an all-expense paid trip to Hollywood, New York, and Washington, D.C. They will participate in screenings of their videos, visits to TV/film sets and meet filmmakers, entertainment executives, media, U.S. government officials and more!

Last year, the Challenge’s six winners hailed from Brazil, Nepal, Philippines, Poland, UAE and Zambia.
